Polish infrastructure giants PKP seek a massive fund injection through new tenders

Poland's rail infrastructure operator PKP PLK will open PLN 6 bln in construction tenders in 2017, CEO Ireneusz Merchel said Thursday.

"To end year, we are planning announcements of new tenders to the tune of about PLN 6 bln," Merchal told a briefing.

"Things could get interesting after July 6 when the European commission decides about awards in the Connecting Europe Facility," Merchel adds. "If it's favorable for us, there will be more."

Poland could get upwards of PLN 4 bln in the Connecting Europe Facility, a portion of which is already in tenders and plans already underway, Merchel estimates.

PKP PLK could increase its total contracting to-end 2017 by more than another PLN 10 bln to "twenty something" billion zloty, Merchel said to largely echo long-standing guidance for PLN 25 bln in 2016-2017.
